After graduating from Yildiz Technical University, Faculty of Education Department of Educational Sciences, she consecutively received the graduate degrees of master and doctorate at the same university, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Social Sciences Institute. She has been working as an academic at Yildiz Technical University, Department of Educational Sciences since 2005. She has been working as a coordinator and consultant of national and international projects in "Teacher Training" and has projects that she is currently pursuing. Altun published three books in the field of education, many articles in Turkish and English and full text proceedings. She has conducted workshops and a number of seminars for teachers, administrators and parents in the fields of "school-based program development models", "instructional design", “UbD”, "measurement and evaluation", "methods and techniques", "curriculum development", "learning and teaching relationship" in private and public schools. Altun has especially focused on school development models recently. She believes that the models, developed and implemented in schools by teachers who are involved in the process, will lead to success. She has been pursuing coordinatorship of a study community called “Designer Teacher” which she and her colleagues founded to follow this objective.
