LEADING WHEN WE ARE MOST TESTED

“A thunderbolt is something beyond your control, a phenomenon that strikes you, your team, your school, your business, your city, even your nation. It rocks you; it blows you into a crater. You have no choice but to take the hit.” (The Winner Within – Pat Riley). Each of us have faced thunderbolts in our life, some of greater magnitude than others. When we boil down our collective practical experience what do we see? In this session we will explore together how leadership manifests when we are most tested. Since a bullet whistled past me as a leader in a school cafeteria this has been a lifelong journey for me. I see common threads. I see traps to avoid. I have learned that leadership lessons under enormous pressure work productively in the everyday life of organisations. When there is so much human emotion and potential chaos at play, how do we lead? Our world will increasingly throw challenges at us. Having a robust well-tested thunderbolt leadership repertoire make us ready to lead with courage, skill and confidence through what is coming at us.
